Each 1 gm contains:
Ampicillin (as Sodium) 750 mg
Ampicillin is a board spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the group of semi-synthetic penicillins, with bactericidal action due to interference with the mucopolysaccharides in the construction of the bacterial cell wall; this causes the breakage of the cell wall resulting in lysis of the bacteria. It is active against both Gram-positive e.g: (Staph aureus, Clostridial organisms) and Gram-negative oragnisms e.g: (Ecoli, Klebsiella and Haemophilus). In the form of sodium salt it is extremely soluble in water. Ampicillin is well absorbed for a share from 30 to 60% of the administered dose.
