Composition :
Each 1gm contains:
Colistin sulphate 200mg
(Eq. to colistin base 160mg =4,800,000 IU)
(each 1mg of colistin activity=30,000IU)
Properties:
Colistin sulfate is an antibiotic belonging to the family of polymyxins,which are characterized by their rapid bacteriocidal activity against mainly gram-negative microorganisms
as E.coli , Haemophilus spp. , Klebsiella spp and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Colistin is a surface-active substance-containing lipophilic groups and lipophobic. It has strong interactions with the phosphate groups of phospholipids in the cell membrane, thus, purines and pyrimidine’s disappear from bacteria. Efficient lysis of bacteria may also occur .Colistin acts more during the resting phase than during the stage of active multiplication of bacteria. Since the action of colistin depends on the number of lipopolysaccharides in the bacterial cell membrane, a decrease in antimicrobial activity may in part be due to a reduced number of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the lipopolysaccharides.
Indications:
Treatment of gastrointestinal diseases caused by germs susceptible to colistin ,especially Escherichia coli
Target Species:
Poultry (Broilers)
Dosage& route of administration:
Route : Orally via drinking water
For whole product:
16 mg of product /kg.b.wt.(1.6gm/ 10 liters)… (approx.,0.15gm/1liter) in drinking water ,daily for 5-7 days.
Warnings & precautions:
- Improper use of the product may increase the occurrence of resistant bacteria to colistin.
- The activity of colistin decreases in the presence of calcium.
Contra-indications
- Not given to birds hypersensitivity to polymyxins.
- Do not use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption.
Side-Effects:
- fter prolonged use, super infection is possible.
- Overdoses cause diarrhea.

- Meat and offals : 0 days
- Not use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption.
Storage conditions:
• Store in dry place, at temperature not exceeding 30C.
• Used immediately after opening and reconstitution.
