Each 1 ml contains:
Neomycin( as sulfate)………………….. 100.000 IU
Colistin(as sulfate ) ………………………..1.200.000IU
(Eq. To 40 mg/ml)
Colistin,(PolymyxinE), polypeptide antibiotics with bactericidal activity, is produced by the anaerobic bacteria Bacillus polymyxa var.colistinus. It interacts with phospholipid and penetrates the membrane structure of bacteria, changing its permeability and decomposition. The antimicrobial action of colistin is limited to Gram-negative bacteria ,including Enterobacter spp, Escherichia.coli, Klebsiella spp, Salmonella spp, Pasteurella spp, Bordetella spp and Shigella spp. Colistin has cross-resistance to other polymyxins.
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with antibacterial activity obtained by fermentation of strains of Streptomyces fradiae, which inhibits the translation process of protein synthesis by interfering with the normal function of the 30S ribosomal subunit. It is mainly acts against Gram-negative aerobic, with very little action and limited on anaerobic Gram- positive. Among the most sensitive to neomycin n Gram negative microorganisms are Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsilla pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Salmonella spp. and Shigella spp. Neomycin has cross-resistance to other aminoglycosides. The association of two antimicrobial, antibacterial has a complementary action with respect to their mechanisms of action.
It is used for treatment of :
Bacterial gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible Escherichia coli in pigs .
