Composition :
Each ml contains:
Gentamicin Sulfate 60.3 mg equivalent to 50 mg of Gentamicin
Properties:
Gentamicin is an antibiotic belonging to the group of Aminoglycosides. It has bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria Such as Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella spp., Pasteurella spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococci. Gentamicin may be active against bacteria, which are resistant to other aminoglycoside antibiotics ,Aminoglycosides are taken up into bacteria by an oxygen-dependent process and are therefore inactive against anaerobic bacteria. They are more active in alkaline media, which is of particular importance when treating urinary infections. Aminoglycosides show synergism with beta-lactam antibacterials .
Gentamicin, like the other aminoglycoside antibiotics, act on susceptible bacteria presumably by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit thereby inhibiting protein synthesis. It is considered to be an bactericidal antibiotic.
