Tylopenum
( W.S.P )
For Veterinary Use Only
Composition :
Each 1 gm contains :
Oxytetracycline hydrochloride 863.34 mg (eq.to oxytetracycline base 800 mg)
Properties:
Oxytetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that has a bacteriostatic activity against most strains of major pathogens of the respiratory tract of cattle (Manheimia haemolytica , Pasteurella multocida ). Oxytetracycline inhibits protein synthesis in bacterial cells by binding to the receptor of the 30 S subunit of the bacterial ribosome , thus preventing the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA and cell growth. Strains of Proteus and Pseudomonas are generally resistant , even to many strains of E.coli and Salmonella spp. , Enterococcus spp. , Shigella spp. , Aerobacter spp. , Furthermore Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Mycoplasma bovis , resistance is increasingly common in Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica. Oxytetracycline is inactive against yeasts and champions.
Indications:
Used for treatment of:-Pneumonia caused by : Mannheimia (Pasteurella)heamolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni (Haemophilus somnus).
-Scours,neonatal diarrhea caused by E.Coli and Salmonella spp.
Target Species:
Calves ( pre-ruminating).
Route of Administration:
Route : Orally via drinking water.
Dose for whole product:
25 mg of product / kg.b.wt. in drinking water every 12 hrs for 3-5 days ( 25 gm of product /1000 kg.b.wt.).
Warnings and precautions:
- Farms where antibiotics of the tetracycline group are regularly used , it is advisable to begin by determining the sensitivity of the organism by performing sensitivity.
- The quality of drinking water and the quality of distribution facilities food / drinking water are likely to strongly influence the bioavailability of the product.
- The drinking water installations ( water tank , pipes , nipples , etc..) must be thoroughly cleaned after the end of treatment . It is recommended to use the drug in the drinking water a completely separate circuit from that used in normal times.
- Improper use of this product may promote the development of bacteria resistant to oxytetracycline and decrease the effectiveness of treatment with tetracyclines because of the risk of cross-resistance.
- The formation of chelates with bi-and trivalent cations may reduce the antimicrobial activity of oxytetracycline .
- Simultaneous use with bactericidal antibiotics (eg. Penicillins ,Cephalosporins , Trimethoprim ) can potentially generate an antagonistic effect.
Contra-indications
- Do not use in cattle ruminating age.
- Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
- Do not use in animals suffering from liver or kidney problems.
Adverse effects:
- The ability of tetracyclines to bind calcium may be responsible for deposits in the bones and teeth and to cause staining.
- The administration of tetracyclines can cause cardiovascular disorders and hypocalcemia.
- Treated animals , particularly those with low pigmented skin may develop after photodermatitis to intense sun exposure.
- At recommended doses , digestive disorders with superinfection with non-susceptible fungi and bacteria may occur.
- Allergic reactions rarely occur in hypersensitive animals.
